Horned Owl Mascot

Artist: Oscar Leon

The Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany

This bronze, Great horned owl sculpture was created for the Ogden International School in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. In 1857, the original elementary school was founded and as the story goes, a great horned owl lived at the original location. The owl was rumored to be seen perched above watching the children throughout the day, thus leading to the inception of the school’s mascot.

Oscar spent numerous hours sculpting the meticulous details of the layered feathers which can be seen in the above clay photo. In 2011, the bronze mascot, cast by Art Casting of Illinois, was installed outside of the new elementary school building.
